What is the Galactic Core?
- The galactic core is marked by a dense band of stars that span across the sky. This band is composed of millions of stars tightly packed together, creating a luminous strip and the brightest section of the Milkyway.
- Interstellar dust clouds are present in the galactic core, creating dark, intricate patterns known as dust lanes. These lanes may also host regions of active star formation and glowing nebulae, which add colorful and ethereal elements to the scene.
- Milky Way core photographs often can exhibit a range of colors, including blues, reds, and yellows. These colors result from different temperatures and compositions of the stars, as well as the presence of ionized gases in nebulae.

Galactic Core Tour Info & Itinerary
Duration: 3 Hours
Distance: 3 Miles or less
We’ll meet after sunset at the designated Trailhead, within a short 30 minute drive from downtown Moab. From there we’ll embark on our journey to the pre-planned photo locations. With your guides help we will spend much of the night framing different shots and capturing the core of the Milkyway. Details vary depending on customization.

We provide headlamps with red LED lighting
In order to maintain night vision red lighting is essential. You’re more than welcome to bring your own as long as you’re familiar with the operations and it also has a dim red light mode.
